waypoint abiotic factors

The desert is a dry, harsh landscape. This is caused by mountains and ridges that hinder clouds being able to enter the desert sky. The lack of clouds allows the desert to feel the full heat of the sun during daylight hours and not retain it during the night(ranging from an average of 100°F in the day time in the Sahara to an average of -2°F during a gobi night). This also means the desert expiriences very little rain fall,1in. yearly on average, sometimes going years without it. Deserts also tend to have large amounts of wind caused by high presure zones on or near the mountains. The soil in deserts is usually poor because it's sand, dry and loose.
